Frequently asked questions
Is there a shop at Ohana Dive Center?
Yes, we have a shop at Ohana Dive Center offering a wide range of T-shirts, diving equipment, swimwear, accessories, and more.
Do I need to bring a medical certificate to participate in diving?
Yes. Divers under 40 years old must provide a medical certificate issued within the last 24 months. Divers aged 40 and above must provide a medical certificate issued within the last 12 months.
Please bring your certificate with you at check-in.
How many divers are there per boat?
This depends on the boat’s licence, but the maximum number is usually between 17 and 30 divers.
Which dive sites are suitable for novice divers?
All local dive sites can be suitable for novice divers, depending on weather and sea conditions.
What time do you leave from the dive center to the boat?
We usually leave between 8:00 am and 8:30 am, depending on guest check-in, preparation, and permission arrangements.
Can I bring my own diving equipment?
Yes, you can bring your own diving equipment. Please make sure it is within your airline’s baggage allowance. Some airlines allow you to purchase extra baggage allowance for sports or diving equipment, so please check with your airline when booking your flight.
BCDs and tanks must be empty, properly closed, and carried in checked luggage.
Please note that some depth gauges, dive computers, and cameras may be affected by low pressure, so these items should be carried in your hand luggage where possible.
Do divers need to complete a medical form?
Yes. All certified divers and anyone taking part in a PADI course must complete and sign a diver medical form before starting any diving activities.
If you have, or think you may have, any of the medical conditions listed on the form, you will need signed medical clearance from a doctor. This clearance must be valid within 12 months of your planned diving activity.
We recommend arranging this before arrival and bringing the certificate with you to avoid delays, extra costs, or missing your dive trip.
What wetsuit should I bring?
In summer, a shorty wetsuit is usually enough. In winter, most divers are comfortable in a 5mm full wetsuit. Many instructors choose to wear dry suits during the colder months.
Do you offer trips to land-based dive sites?
Yes. For divers who prefer not to go by boat, we offer daily trips by minibus or pickup to beautiful shore-diving areas along the reef. The maximum driving time is approximately 60 minutes.
What currency should I bring?
We accept cash payments in Euros, British Pounds, Egyptian Pounds, and US Dollars. We also accept Visa and MasterCard.
Do dives take place in all weather conditions?
The safety of our guests is always our top priority. For this reason, all dive trips depend on weather and sea conditions and may be changed or cancelled at short notice for safety reasons.
As an alternative, our house reef offers safe and beautiful diving almost all year round, thanks to its protected location. This is a rare advantage, even in Egypt.
How many guides are there on each boat?
At present, CDWS does not specify a maximum number of guests per guide on each boat. However, at Ohana we normally operate with a ratio of 12 guests to 1 guide, with fewer guests per guide when needed, depending on the divers’ experience levels.
